FOUND FIBER, FOUND OBJECTS, YARN BOMBING: Tactile & Telling.
    Feature Fiber Art Installation
    Debra Gindhart Dragoo

YARN BOMBING isn’t GENTRIFFITI, fiber arts can be beautifully showcased in an art installation, perhaps through large-scale crochet or knit installations, intricate textile sculptures, or immersive weaving environments. The interplay of color, texture, and form in fiber arts lend itself well to creating captivating installations that engage viewers on both visual and tactile levels. These installations can explore themes such as identity, tradition, or environmental sustainability; offering a rich and immersive experience for audiences to explore and contemplate. Yarn bombing, also known as guerrilla knitting, is a form of street art where knitted or crocheted yarn is used to create colorful displays in public spaces. It’s a way for artists to add whimsy and warmth to urban environments, often covering objects like lampposts, statues, or bike racks with knitted or crocheted material. Yarn bombing can bring a lot of joy and creativity to public spaces.

    Muncie Artist’s Guild
    Various locations
Sherry Adkins is our Muncie Artists Guild's Artist of the Month for May 2024.

Sherry’s Artist Statement: Growing up in the countryside of Indiana, surrounded by fields, forests and wildlife instilled in me a deep appreciation for nature. Often, I would have a front row seat to the deer that wander into the back yard, a view of the many birds that would gather at the bird feeders, and the families of raccoons that would climb up the apple trees for a snack.
As an adult, I have a sense of peace and a strong connection to God being in nature. I often admired the natural details and textures in nature. I believe that where I find God the most is in the details. Through the art of pyrography, I aim to push the boundaries of drawing with heat and fire, and reveal an up close, detailed view of the wildlife and nature that surround us.

Her work will be shown at the following locations: Northwest Bank (E Charles), Old National Bank (S Madison), Rosebud Coffee House, Vera Mae's Bistro, and Parlour Salon.

    The Great Muncie Mystery, 5-8pm
You are cordially invited to join the party Downtown during September’s First Thursday for The Great Muncie Mystery! A heist has taken place during one of Jay Gatsby’s parties. One of his most important guests had their necklace stolen and a servant was canned for it. They insist that they were framed and need our help to find the thief and bring them to justice.

On Thursday September 5th, put on your Roaring 20’s glad rags and meet us at Dave’s Ally or Canan Commons starting at 5:30pm to pick up your Crime Tracker, then solve the riddles that will lead you to ten different business along Downtown’s main drag. In each correct location, you will find either a suspect or a piece of evidence to help you solve the mystery. Turn in your guesses at the lobby of Muncie Civic Theatre by 7:30pm, then stick around to cut a rug on the mainstage with Harmony Dance Studio while you wait to find out who the caper is and which of our local gum-shoes will solve the crime!

Anyone who successfully identifies who-done-it and the evidence proving it will be entered into a drawing for some spiffy prizes from our generous partners around town, but you must be at Muncie Civic during the drawing to claim your prize! If you want to continue the fun after the main event, keep your eyes peeled to find the Speakeasy details at the big reveal!
