Write Your Legislator Day(s)
9:00am to 5:00pm @
Art and Journalism Building, Ball State University
Atrium
1001 N. McKinley Ave.
On November 14th and 15th Students for Creative Social Activism is hosting Write Your Legislator Days (WYLD) in the Atrium. Come in for some expert guidance on how to effectively go from being concerned about an issue, to contacting the correct elected official with your concerns.
The goal of the WYLD event is to show everyone that they have the ability to make their opinions heard to their representatives. We believe that every student should graduate ready to be active and informed citizens. We will have tables set up in the Atrium with information on how to research legislation, legislators, and effective writing.
A huge thank you to the Ball State University Democrats and the Ball State College Republicans for working with us to make this event a success!- The Scene @ the Cup: Ep 7 - BGPJ & The StereoFidelics 7:00pm to 12:42pm @ The Cup 1606 W. University Ave
Every Thursday at The Cup, a recent episode of "The Scene" from Indiana Public Radio will be played. "The Scene" highlights the best live local music from Central Indiana. Swing by, have a great cup of coffee, and enjoy some rad tunes!
This episode:
BGPJ - Two-piece blues/rock band from Marion, IN.
The StereoFidelics - "Imagine you’re back in time enjoying the groove and virtuosity of 70’s art-rock band, then hurled decades forward, colliding with the energy and intensity of today’s indie rock scene. There’s unexpectedly powerful jazzy female vocals intertwined with a strong, satin-smooth male voice. Thumping synth basslines and popping, funky drumbeats drive the skillfully intricate guitar playing and explosions of electric violin string-shredding. Reflecting their influences of past and present (including Frank Zappa, Led Zeppelin, the Talking Heads, Arcade Fire, and the White Stripes), the StereoFidelics avoid performing with loops, computers, and digital effects in favor of the more organic approach of using Moog Taurus pedals, scat vocal solos, and multi-instrumentalism. You see, the fast-fingered guitar player (Chris Padgett) keeps the basslines pounding through a one-octave floor keyboard, the tiny female vocalist (Melissa McGinley) is also the drummer; he sings too, and she plays violin. They perform with a natural passion and synchronicity that not only dispels any association with the herky-jerky one-man-band cliché, but post-performance, leaves their audience sympathetically exhausted and dripping with sweat."
