The Muncie Makers Market is happy to be a part of Muncie’s First Thursday community events in Downtown Muncie! 🍃 This is a popular local monthly tradition, going many years back, with all sorts of vendors, artists, and entertainers set up throughout Downtown Muncie. It’s a casual, relaxed evening outdoors, and we help to bring folks to the area. We are looking forward to a great turn out!

Assuming good weather, the Muncie Makers Market will set up every month on the sidewalks by the corner of Walnut and Adams Streets for the 2023 First Thursday gatherings, and be open ‪to the public from 5-8p‬. 🌿 The Muncie Makers Market is a registered farmers market featuring handmade creations, homemade foods, and locally grown produce! We hope you come see us and enjoy a lovely evening with your community!

The next BIG event for the Muncie Makers Market is the Holiday Gift Market, on December 7th, during December's First Thursday, which is Light Up DWNTWN, from 5-8p, at the Royalty Event Center. There will be fun events all over Downtown Muncie which are sponsored by the Muncie Downtown Development Partnership, and we are excited to be at the heart of it all! Every December’s First Thursday is branded as Light Up DWNTWN and we will show up BRIGHT and MERRY!

The Holiday Gift Market showcases local business!  All with handmade creations, homemade delights, locally grown goodies, and SO MUCH MORE! We really hope that you will #ShopSmallFirst this season!

Our event location is the brand new Royalty Event Center at 227 South Walnut Street, right between Heorot Pub & Draughthouse and Lahody’s Trust Your Butcher Steakhouse, just North of the intersection of Walnut and Adams. Very easy to find, with lots of free parking all around!

The Addictions Coalition of Delaware County and the Ball State University Center for Substance Use Research and Community Initiatives, present the Delaware County Symposium on Substance Use Disorders.

The following sessions will be available:

Morning Session (9:00 am to 12:00 pm)

Ball State Student Center, Cardinal Halls A/B (2000 W. University Ave., Muncie IN. 47306)

The morning session will include several talks discussing the the state of substance use prevention, treatment and recovery in Delaware County.

• Welcome by Deputy Mayor Richard Ivy, City of Muncie
• “Addiction: Progress and Challenges in Delaware County” by Tersea Long, Executive Director of Hope Chest
• Keynote address by Tony Toomer, Opioid Program Treatment Manager, Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction

The morning keynote will be followed by a selection of break-out sessions.

• "Breaking the Cycle of Addiction: A Collaborative Recovery Experience" by the Indiana Univeristy Interprofessional Practice and Education Center, the Indiana Addictions Issues Coalition, and the Indiana University Academic Steering Committee
• “Getting Involved with the Facing Project and Facing Life on the Streets” by J.R. Jamison, Co-Founder and President of the Facing Project
• "Narcan Packing and Lessons on Stigma” by Sara Renee, Muncie Folk Collective
• "The Delaware County JUMP Program” by Emily Stults, Employent and Education Services Coordinator of Delaware County Adult Probation
• “The Relationships between Art, Movement, and Trauma-Informed Care” by Dr. Jonel Thaller and Tracena Marie, Ball State University

Networking Lunch and Resource Fair (12:00-1:00)

The lunch will be provided free-of-cost thanks to the very generous support of the Delaware County Trauma-Informed Recovery-Oriented System of Care Team, funded by the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration. A resource fair on recovery- and treatment-related services will be provided concurrently. Please reach out to Brandt Myer at brmyer@bsu.edu to register if your organization would like to participate in the resource fair.

Afternoon Session (1:00 pm to 4:00 pm)

Ball State Student Center, Cardinal Halls A/B (2000 W. University Ave., Muncie IN. 47306)

The afternoon session will highlight a personal story of addiction and recovery as well as another keynote address. The Addictions Coalition of Delaware County will provide updates on a host of projects initiated in the past year. Finally, residents in Industry, Thomas Park/Avondale and Southside neighborhoods will speak about addiction, health, and navigating health services in a guided town hall panel discussion.

• Personal Story of Crisis and Recovery
• Keynote Address by Judge Kim Dowling, Judge of Delaware County Circuit Court 2

The following panelists will be in attendance for the event, moderated by Pastor Neil Kring, Neighborhood Pastor of Urban Light, CDC.

Panelists will be from Thomas Park/Avondale neighborhood, Southside neighborhood, and Industry neighborhood

☘️ Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with an exciting parade through the streets of DWNTWN! ☘️ 

The Parade will begin at Muncie City Hall, travel South on Walnut Street to Charles Street, and return along Mulberry Street. Parade attendees are asked to line up on Walnut Street between Wysor and Charles Streets, and on Charles Street from Walnut to Mulberry Streets. No candy will be thrown until parade entries reach Wysor Street. 🍬

Muncie Children’s Museum will help future astronauts prepare for the eclipse by making solar viewing crowns, offering space-themed sensory bins, and more. Local author and illustrator Laurie Lunsford will read her book The Solar Eclipse is Coming. Solar System Ambassador Sarah Vise will share her expertise with curious learners, and visitors can also attend a performance of the world premiere of A Golden Curve of Light, an eclipse-themed one-act play written by award-winning playwright, Jennifer Blackmer.
